ABOUT US

Introduction / History

Athlone Community Training Centre opened in 1986 and has been training early school leavers from Athlone and it’s surrounding areas in a wide range of Vocational, Social and Technical Skills since then.  In this time approximately 1250 young people have received training here. Our successes to date include placement in Apprenticeship or Employment, progression on to further Training or Educational Courses, delivery of Leaving Certificate Applied, Junior Certificate, NCVA and FETAC Modules, Preparatory Programme for Apprenticeship, Traineeship, Work Experience, Job Placement Programme, City & Guilds Courses, IAS, ECDL, and SafePass etc.  We have organised and ran Youth Exchanges and Educational Group Travel events within Ireland and abroad involving countries such as Denmark, Germany, Italy, Iceland, England, Estonia, Slovenia, Netherlands, Poland, Russia and France etc.

Catchment Areas

The Centre is open Monday to Thursday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and Friday 8:30 am to 1:30 pm.  While Athlone Town is our primary target area, Trainees from outside the Athlone area can avail of the FAS bus service, which transports Trainees from all the major towns in the Midland region to the FAS Centre in Garrycastle.  Athlone Community Training Centre Trainees are then transported to and from our Centre by shuttle bus.  This makes the Centre accessible to Trainees from a wider catchment area that otherwise could not avail of the training and development which we provide.
